REPRESENTATIVES from various sectors have banded together to launch a campaign that seeks to address the worsening traffic situation in Metro Cebu.

Dubbed as Tuman Cebu, Pwede Kaayo!, the campaign aims to promote the importance of following traffic rules among all road users. The campaign is being undertaken by Mega Cebu in partnership with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 and was launched last February 9, 2018.

In her welcome address, Evelyn Nacario-Castro, Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board – Research, Program, and Organizational Development Program Management Office (MCDCB-RPOD PMO) director, pointed out that traffic congestion in Metro Cebu has become an everyday experience among residents. She urged both the government and private sector to unite and find ways to solve the problem.

LTO 7 Director Victor Emmanuel Caindec, for his part, urged the public to cooperate as  helping ease traffic is also everyone’s job.

Present during the launch were Reps. Raul Del Mar (Cebu City north district) and Gerald Anthony Gullas (Cebu, 1st district), who both agreed on the need for the government to strictly observe traffic rules and regulation, and for the public to follow these.

City of Naga Mayor Kristine Chiong and Cordova Mayor Therese Sitoy-Cho, who were also present during the launching, welcomed the campaign, saying that education campaigns for motorists and pedestrians on traffic rules are an important undertaking to help solve the traffic congestion issue in Metro Cebu.

Peter Go, president of Cebu Road Heroes, said they are happy to take part in the campaign, specifically in educating motorists on disciplined driving. Through different platforms, they expressed their willingness to help address the traffic problem. Deputy Presidential Assistant Mike Pato of the Office of the Presidential Assistant to the Visayas, for his part, assured that the campaign has the full support of their office.

To signify the commitment of every group represented, a Bugsai signing ceremony was done, led by Caindec.
