RAFI Provides Relief to Typhoon Tino Affected Communities in Cebu

default

On November 4, 2025, Typhoon Tino swept through Cebu, displacing families and damaging communities. The typhoon brought about strong winds and heavy flooding across several towns in Cebu. The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to deliver immediate relief to the most affected areas.

Even as RAFI faces the same challenges being in the affected province, it continues to move forward to serve the communities it stands with. Upon activation of its EOC, RAFI conducted validation and needs assessments in coordination with government agencies to support organized relief operations.

Just weeks earlier, on September 30, 2025, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Northern Cebu. Many communities were still recovering when Typhoon Tino arrived, leaving many still on the path to recovery when the typhoon struck.

RAFI’s Typhoon Tino Relief Response

In the Relief phase of its humanitarian response, RAFI provides immediate assistance to affected families through the distribution of food, clean water, and essential supplies in coordination with local government units.

Guided by situational reports and needs assessments from the Provincial and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils, RAFI ensures swift and targeted relief operations. The Foundation supports nine (9) affected Local Government Units by providing need-based relief and recovery assistance to families and individuals impacted by the crisis.

As of November 12, 2025, 4:30 PM, RAFI has raised ₱4.9 million through its donation channels. These funds are being translated into direct relief support for affected communities. To date, 661 food packs and drinking water have been distributed to families in Municipality of Liloan.

RAFI has also received, in-kind donations from JP Morgan Chase & Co. which were distributed to RAFI’s partner organizations in Cebu city. Food items and hygiene kits were turned over to Kidslife Foundation, Inc. for 53 families and to Arcanys Early Learning Foundation for 105 families, benefitting households affected by Typhoon Tino.

A Call for Restoration

The aftermath of Typhoon Tino has tested the strength and resilience of Cebuanos. RAFI calls for collective action and for restoration; pagpahiuli.  Restoration not only of what was lost, but of what can be renewed.

This call extends beyond rebuilding structures; it is a call to renew our commitment to protect and conserve the environment through tree growing and other acts of care for the land. Through these efforts, we can safeguard our environment, our homeland, and the communities that depend on them.
