The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) has partnered with the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in providing holistic rehabilitation care and medicine to patients in Central Visayas.
In 2016, VSMMC’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (VSMMC-DRM) was selected as the Regional Rehabilitation Center of Central Visayas. As the government’s designated rehabilitation center, it is expected to cater to a population of 8 million in the region.
To support the Regional Rehabilitation Center in caring for patients within Central Visayas, RAFI, through a donation by the Aboitiz-Moraza Family, has provided a grant to VSMMC for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Phase 2 of the VSMMC’s Regional Rehabilitation Center. Phase 1 of the construction is covered by the Department of Health.
RAFI and the VSMMC held a special groundbreaking ceremony on April 8, 2022 to signify the start of Phase 2 of the Regional Rehabilitation Center Renovation Project.
RAFI’s grant, through the support of the Aboitiz-Moraza Family, covers the construction, refurbishment, and renovation of several services and sections of the rehabilitation center, including the Pediatric Occupational Therapy, Adult Physical Dysfunction OT, and a portion of the Adult Physical Therapy sections, and the Sensory Integration of Pediatric Patients, Activities of Daily Living Training, and Orthosis and Prosthesis Factory services, as well as the Working Lounge for PT, OT, and Speech Therapists, Patients’ Waiting Lounge, and Built-in Oxygen Supply for the Rehab Ward.
RAFI’s total grant is valued at Php. 8.5M. RAFI will oversee the construction and work closely with their identified contractors to ensure the timely completion of the project.
“We look forward to seeing the completion of the VSMMC-DRM Regional Rehabilitation Center in Central Visayas. The hospital’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has been working hard to cater to as many patients as possible. With the eventual completion of the rehabilitation center, the hospital would be able to help more patients from Central Visayas, providing much needed rehabilitation care to patients,” said Riella Mae Guioguio, Chief Operating Officer of RAFI.
Phase 2 of the Regional Rehabilitation Center Renovation Project is projected to be completed by August 2022. Once completed, the center will be able to cater to more patients and provide affordable orthoses and prostheses, including spinal and leg braces and artificial limbs to patients. The fully set-up center will likewise serve as a facility for rehabilitation medicine doctors to train and practice in the Visayas.
