Recognizing the role of play in therapy sessions, the Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI-DACF) and KIDSLIFE Foundation (KIDS Learning Initiative and Family Education) organized a one-day creative play workshop and orientation for volunteers last Sept. 30, 2018.
The activity included making different toys made from natural materials that will be used in conducting creative play therapy sessions for children affected by the recent landslide in the City of Naga in Cebu.
Play therapy is often used for children who experienced trauma as this provides them opportunity to process their emotions that they may not be able to express in other ways.
The volunteers who participated in the orientation workshop came from different sectors and saw the call for volunteers posted by RAFI in its different social media platforms. Four of the volunteers were high school students who committed to join the onsite sessions for children.
The rest of the volunteers were professionals who also signified interest in joining RAFI-DACF and KIDSLIFE Foundation activities in the City of Naga.
RAFI-DACF, volunteers, and KIDSLIFE, headed by Ms. Grace Ferreros, will visit two evacuation centers in Naga to conduct a three-day creative play therapy sessions to answer the psychosocial needs of children who experienced trauma and disruption caused by the recent disaster.
The Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI-DACF) aims to improve Early Childhood Care and Development condition at the grassroots level by providing capabilities to the Local Government Units to effectively track children’s development and by constructing quality early learning centers. Its Grants Program also supports initiatives promoting the welfare and development of children in all ages.
