The Kool Adventure Camp (KAC), a flagship leadership and citizenship program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., passed the practical Patient Assessment examination conducted by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) last November.

The NOLS, founded in 1965, is an outdoor education school based in the United States dedicated to teaching environmental ethics, technical outdoors skills, wilderness medicine, risk management and judgment, and leadership on extended wilderness expeditions and in traditional classrooms. NOLS courses feature both leadership and technical outdoor skills and have trained more than 280,000 students.

KAC got a pass rating after 24 Operations and Support staff underwent an intensive 9-day Wilderness First Responder Training and Certification. It is the industry standard for professional guides, trip leaders, search and rescue team members, outdoor recreationists, and international travelers. The scenario-based approach provided KAC staff the opportunity to test their skills against realistic situations, practiced and learnt wilderness medicine protocols, evacuation and decision-making guidelines, and receive the latest updates in wilderness medicine.

Recertified from Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Training and Certification 2013 was KAC Camp Directress Marie Sol Gonzalvo.

Recertified from Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) Training and Certification 2015 and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Training and Certification 2013 were the following KAC Operations staff: Sheerene Abrea (Assistant Deputy Directress for PDP) and Daphne Dia (Assistant Deputy Directress for YDP), Jay Alera (Operations Support & Safety Manager), Anthony Ocampo (Senior Partnerships & Development Officer for PDP), Gabriel Lamparas (Training Operations Manager for YDP), Leomil Urpiana (Professional Development Programs Facilitator), Richard De Los Reyes and Landolf Villanueva (Youth Development Programs Facilitators).

Upgraded from Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) Training and Certification 2015 were Professional Development Programs Facilitator Ma. Dea Devaras and Youth Development Programs Facilitators Nina Klaire Credo, Kristy Ann Diaz, Jehzial Mainit, Jo Ann Ramos, and Diovanie Obineta.

Certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Training and Certification 2017 were Youth Development Programs Facilitators Jan Canesio, Chareena Patindol, Audrey Arquilos, Kevin Navares, Hannah Medalle, Jessa Sepe, Sharry Ricafort and KAC EMT Nurses Arlorn Bartolome and Joseph Doniel Resma.

Certified NOLS WFRs are trained to conduct a thorough physical exam, full patient assessment within or under 15 minutes, do CPR for 30 minutes, provide emergency care even for multi-casualties in the wilderness setting and make crucial evacuation decisions.

The inspection and certification are part of KAC’s commitment to safety as its paramount priority in delivering world-class programs and services conducted by its internationally trained and highly competent Adventure Education Practitioners.
