Triennial Awards promoted in Davao and Cotabato City

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) 4th Triennial Award was promoted through press conferences in
Davao City and Cotabato City, Mindanao on February 9-10, 2008.

The Triennial team went to the two cities to interact with the media and members of the non-government organizations.

Around 30 media personnel and members of Tabak, a local group that holds a weekly forum in
Davao City, attended the presscon in Davao in February 9, organized by Davao Light, an Aboitiz Company.

Evelyn Nacario-Castro, Executive Director of one of RAFI’s programs, was joined in by Adoracion Avisado, a member of the 4th Triennial Search Committee, in the panel. Avisado is the Execuitve Director of Transformative Justice Institute. She is also a former judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 where she was awarded by the three branches of the national government for her outstanding performance in the judiciary. Dr. Warlito Laquihon and Rev. Ruben dela Cruz, also formed part of the panelists. Dr. Laquihon, a multi-awarded agriculturist, was the first recipient of the Triennial award - Individual Category. Rev. Dela Cruz, on the other hand, heads the Brokenshire Integrated Health Ministries (BIHMI), a finalist to the third Triennial award – Institution Category.

In Cotabato, Mayor Ramon Piang and Hadja Bainon Karon graced the press conference in February 10 by sharing their advocacies and their Triennial experiences. Mayor Piang was the Individual Awardee in the 3rd Triennial and Hadja Karon, was a finalist to the individual category in the same Triennial run. Mayor Piang was honored for his transparent and participative governance in Upi, Maguindanao. Hadja Karon, a former ARMM DSWD Secretary and currently the Executive Director of the Bangsamoro Women organization, was recognized for her exemplary work in and outside the government.

Now on its 4th run, the Triennial Award is open for nominations to the two categories: the Ramon Aboitiz Award for Exemplary Individual and the Eduardo Aboitiz Award for Outstanding Institution. The Triennial gives recognition to individuals and institutions in the Visayas and
Mindanao whose work has created a positive impact to the lives of many, especially the marginalized.
