The Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (EJACC) serves as a coordinating system that links people and institutions towards cancer awareness, prevention, and treatment.

As a coordinating center it utilizes existing health services integrating the assistance and partnerships with government, non-government and socio-civic organizations.

Founded in 1988, EJACC is primarily geared towards prevention and early detection (Stages I and II) with strategies applied in its Health Care and Cancer Registry/Special Research programs.

Services

A. Health Care


a. Leveled Health Promotion

Includes the screening and diagnostic services to detect early malignancies of cancer including its early treatment.

Services:

  • Pap smear (Cervical Screening)
  • Mammography
  • Breast examination
  • Breast and cervix biopsy
  • Surgery (as a form of primary treatment)
b. Integrated Health Services Delivery: Referral System

A supplementary program addressing the needs of patients whose concern is beyond the scope of EJACC. The program is designed to supplement and complement the existing programs and services of the center.

  • Referral System
  • Linkaging/networking
c. Family Care Intervention: "TOUCH-a-Family" Program

A cancer support group of interdisciplinary professionals who come together to do a holistic approach in cancer care involving the family in a home setting.

d. Education

The Community Cancer Education program aims to educate the public about cancer diseases and including their preventive measures.

The program includes:
  • Information dissemination
  • Advocacy in communities, schools, and public and private organizations
  • Training
B. Cancer Registry/Special Research

EJACC does research through its Cebu Population-Based Cancer Registry, the third and the only one outside Metro Manila, cancer registry in the country.

It is accredited by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

EJACC collects Cancer cases from different hospitals, local civil registries, and cancer institutes/clinics operating within the four (4) cities and seven (7) municipalities in Metro Cebu. Data are analyzed to determine cancer incidence and mortality distribution in a given population. The result is used to design and implement health programs and/or policies that promote cancer awareness and control.

  • Voting Member, International Association of Cancer Registries (IACR)
  • Accredited, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
  • 3rd Population-Based cancer registry in the Philippines
